New Haven Pride Center David Knapp Scholarship
The application period for the New Haven Pride Center David Knapp Scholarship for the 2012-2013 school year is now open.
For the 2012-2013 school year, we are thrilled to be able to expand our Scholarship to two separate awards! We will give one $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior, college freshman or college sophomore. Our second $500 scholarship will go to a college junior, senior, graduate, or post-graduate student.
Our Scholarship is named in honor of David Knapp, a longtime friend and supporter of the NHPC. David's amazing list of accomplishments include: starting Connecticut chapters of GLSEN (the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network) and PFLAG (Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays), both of which remain incredibly active today; leading his church, the First Church of Christ of Guilford, in its efforts to become an open and affirming organization; past leadership of - and current membership in - Stonewall Speakers, a Connecticut-based speakers bureau; and remaining at the forefront of the charge to get the Boy Scouts of America to change its archaic policy on homosexuality. David's contributions number so significantly that they are catalogued under the name "David Knapp Papers" at the Yale University Library. The New Haven Pride Center is proud to honor David by naming our Scholarship after him.
