Graduate Award Winner
Theresa Gillette of Prospect, CT
The Graduate Award winner is an outstanding individual who wants to pursue a career in secondary education. Theresa Gillette is currently attending the University of New Haven and has so far earned a 4.0 GPA towards her goal of receiving an MS Education degree. She earned a 3.96 GPA, summa cum laude, from Lynchburg College with a BA English degree, where she also had an impressive record of LGBT activities.
In her application essay, Theresa said, “My beliefs, biases, assumptions, and fears as a teacher will shine through. She is currently interning at East Haven High School where she is working with their GSA. “Through completing my teaching certification through the University of New Haven in November 2015, I will be able to gain a full time teaching position where I can use my social-justice lens, intellect, and leadership abilities to form social-justice oriented groups of students. As a queer woman myself, my interpretation of school policy and student conduct will certainly lean toward ensuring that the voice of the LGBT community is heard and served in my school. “
