Building upon the success of this year’s Dorothy Awards celebration, the Center is pleased to announce the 6th Annual Dorothy Awards will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Fantasia from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This year’s honorees share a common thread of reaching out to larger audiences, trying to make a difference.
The Connecticut Gay Men’s Chorus the state’s only performing arts organization of gay men. They were recently named “Best Vocal Group” in a poll conducted of readers of Connecticut Magazine. The CGMC is well-known for offering surprises and laughs during their shows, making them a popular favorite.
The Rev. John MacIver Gage is pastor of the United Church on the Green, a church that is open and affirming, specifically reaching out to the GLBT community. The organization is part of the larger United Church of Christ. Rev. Gage has been with the organization for a couple of years, and in that time has developed a close bond with his community. A number of nominations have been received due to his acceptance and leadership.
Our last awardees are Fran Rzeznik and Zinka Benton, being honored for their various efforts in support of our communities, especially their magnificint work in film, television and other areas of communication, including recent film “Marriage Makes a World of Difference,” which covered state couples in their efforts to gain equal marriage rights.
Our second Rising Star award will be awarded to Bryce, an early 20s trans man who, despite being in college, is also heavily involved with a number of organizations throughout the state, and has already made a big imprint. Bryce was one of the speakers at the kick-off to this year’s True Colors event at UConn.
Tickets for this year’s event will remain $100. However, tickets purchased before January 31 via PayPal on our Dorothy Awards page, www.nhglcc.org/dorothy.html, can save $25 per ticket! That page will also be the home to additional details as it develops, including the selection of host, silent auction items and more biographical information.
