Miracles Mondays, New Haven’s A Course In Miracles study group, is celebrating their ten year anniversary.  Founded in January 1997 by Rev. Casey Roberts and Rev. Alex Garbera, Miracles Mondays continues with its dedicated core of spiritual seekers.  The Monday meetings give participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of A Course In Miracles and apply it to their daily lives.

Although somewhat difficult to describe, A Course In Miracles was first published as three separate volumes in 1976:  a text book, 365 lessons, and a manual for teachers.  It is a metaphysical text that attempts to help readers look at things differently and see just how connected everything is.  Not an easy read, study groups help discern and digest concepts that sometimes seem contradictory to the way we learned things about God, spirituality, reality and even the people we met in our daily lives.  Now published as a single book with all three sections, it is widely available in book stores and printed in several languages.

Terri Polverari has been attending Miracles Mondays for seven and half years, and likened A Course In Miracles to the “Panama Canal of life, where life flows and we get a chance to stop and take a look at ourselves, look at where we are, check our baggage, and look at our cargo.”

For co-founder Rev. Casey Roberts, one of the motivations for starting the group stemmed from a friend’s Christmas tree that had thirty-seven red ribbons on it, one for each of his friends that died of HIV/AIDS.  “I thought that group would help cope with the so many losses our community suffered,” Rev. Roberts said.

Although its home is in The New Haven Gay & Lesbian Community Center, Miracles Mondays reaches far beyond it and is attended regularly by members of the community at large.  It is a safe place free of judgment and has a lot of unconditional love, peace, and joy.  “I like to laugh,” said Tracy Collins as she explained why the group was important to her.  When asked what advice Tracy would give a new comer her reply was to be patient and “don’t give up: wherever you want to go A Course In Miracles can take there!” To which Terri replied, “or even some places where you didn’t want to go.” (The group laughs.)

Miracles Monday’s meets most every Monday (excluding holidays) at the New Haven Gay & Lesbian Community Center, 50 Fitch Street, New Haven, CT.  It is free, and donations are accepted for the community Center for its generous support.  For more information, please contact Rev. Casey Roberts at: 203-315-9201.
