The name change was officially announced in the fall of 2008 and the board has phased out the original name and reflect this new identity.
The Center Board of Directors changed the name of the Center in July 2008 to have a more inclusive identity. As the board expected, and we have been hearing from many members and visitors, the “New Haven Pride Center” allows everyone to be included without the need to add an expanding alphabetical listing of letters to represent the diversity within our community.
The name change was officially announced in the fall of 2008 and the board has phased out the original name and reflect this new identity. It is our hope that the many diverse people drawn to the Center recognize that the New Haven Pride Center and its Board of Directors are responsive to their concerns. The name of our organization must reflect the values of the entire community.
If that weren’t enough, the Center also moved, finding a new location that will allow it to continue offering meeting space and a place for the community, while at the same time keeping expenses in check.
At the beginning of March, the Center relocated to 14 Gilbert Street in West Haven. Near the New Haven line, the Center is in an artists building that is quiet, comfortable and offers us the room to maintain our offerings for years to come.
To that end, the Center will be offering an Open House in our new space Sunday, June 14 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Board and many of its continuing group leaders will be in attendance to welcome all new visitors and old friends alike. We encourage you to come and check out the new space if you can, and join us in celebrating the next chapter of what’s already been a rewarding experience for the New Haven community.
As part of these changes, a new newsletter format and Web site will be coming later this year. For those changes, keep an eye out at www.nhglcc.org for the latest happenings with our electronic communications.
