The Color of Caring

Board member Kathryn Thomas writes about her recent experience at True Colors' "Chocolate & Cheesecake for a Cause" event.

True Colors hosted its annual “Chocolate & Cheesecake for a Cause” event at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven on April 9. Emcee for the evening was comedienne Christine O’Leary (nominated Funniest Lesbian in America by Curve Magazine), which also featured numbers by some of our friends from the Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticut. It was an evening of fun, dancing, raffles, food, wine…and delectable desserts.

The amazing assortment of cheesecakes and chocolate truffles revealed when the curtain was drawn produced a chorus of ‘oohs’ and ‘aaahs’ around the room. Good thing there was plenty of dancing throughout the evening to help work off those calories, including an on-the-spot dance class for all! The raffle tables attracted a fair share of attention during the course of the evening as well. The live auction was capped off with a fabulous overnight trip to Camden Maine later this year, complete with red carpet treatment at one of Christine O’Leary’s shows.

While the entertainment, laughter, camaraderie and superb food made it a great evening out, the true star of the evening was the passion those involved in True Colors bring to their mission of education and support for our GLBT youth. To learn more about the organization and their mission visit http://www.ourtruecolors.org.
