The board of the New Haven Pride Center is thrilled to report that the final proceeds from our recent Dorothy Awards exceeded $15,000! With this money, we look to run additional programming, and increase membership and volunteer services. It was the most successful Center gala ever! We look forward to building on the momentum with offerings in the next year and also a spectacular 2011 Dorothy Awards!
Our co-president Tom Donato attended a “speed-networking” event for LGBTQ and allied businesses hosted by CABO (the Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities). CABO Board President Dena Castricone was honored with a Dorothy Award this year for her work founding CABO. Their events are a great way for businesses and organizations such as the Pride Center to support each other.
In other news, we held an informative workshop on the impact that drugs such as meth have on gay men, and we were lucky enough to be able to offer continuing education units for qualified therapists. Lastly, we had a fantastic “Third Monday” volunteer night that was abuzz with youthful energy (thank you GLANCE!) and new volunteers (thank you new volunteers!) helping us organize the library, neaten up the Center, and build our databases.
