Here at the New Haven Pride Center this summer, we were busier than ever! We debuted several regularly meeting monthly support groups for youth aged 15 to 20 (NHPC Youth), another group for transgender people, a hiking group, a poetry writing group, and a singing group. The RainbowSupport Group attended Northampton's Pride March and is getting ready to launch its own website. In mid-August, a fundraiser was held 168 York Street in New Haven for the Center. The event was co-sponsored by the Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticut, the Northeast Ursamen and Mr. CT Leather. More than 200 people attended the event, which also featured Mr. International Daddy Bear 2009 Joe Mannetti and host Robin Banks. In all, $1,540 was raised for the Center, which will help the Center continue to expand its offerings. In early September, we held a free barbecue at Lighthouse Point in New Haven that was attended by many. We also accepted generous contributions from our membership for the Vision Fund, which will go towards our eventual purchase of our own building to house the Center. Finally, we initiated a scholarship fund; the first scholarship will be awarded in 2011 to help defray costs for an LGBTQ student or ally pursuring higher education.
We thank you for your support this summer. We have so many more things planned for autumn and beyond, including our NHPC Youth Rated Q dance, our November wine tasting, our annual holiday party, the beginning of our Dorothy Awards planning, and much, much more.
