New Haven Pride Center

Five months after moving into our new home, The New Haven Pride Center board is thrilled to debut our new online home!

This feels like another marker that we have turned a corner, after having survived what has been a very difficult two years for the Center. While the board had essentially been reduced to two devoted and long-serving co-presidents, Keha Esposito and Paul Kuehn, we now have a strong six-member team that has worked together for two years. The Center also has a new name. Although we were sad to part with “The New Haven Gay and Lesbian Community Center,” which reflects that we are concerned with “queer” citizens, ones who belong to a “sexual minority,” we feel our new name more accurately points to the diverse community that we want to welcome to our space. 

And, make no mistake, we are proud!

• To be part of a “rainbow community” that includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer people and our many allies.
• To be part of New Haven County with its diverse towns, grounded by the vibrant city of New Haven. 
• And to have found a home that permits us still to hold large gatherings as well as more intimate meetings, that is accessible to buses, I-91 and I-95--and wheelchairs, too--and where we do not have to supply toilet paper for the public restrooms as we had to in our last place! 

In the coming months, we hope that Center members and people from all over New Haven County visit the New Haven Pride Center to see what it offers in terms of new programming, a welcoming space to hold meetings or just hang out, and a library with archival material that traces our path in New Haven and beyond.
