The New Haven Pride Center is proud to offer multiple scholarship opportunities to foster the next generation of LGBTQ+ leaders in Connecticut and beyond. Originally established as a single scholarship in 2011, the Center’s scholarship funds have grown vastly over the past decade to include additional awards intended to support special areas of studies and address inequity in the larger LGBTQ+ community.

Application Requirements:
- Applicants must identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community
- Applicants must be residents of the State of Connecticut or be enrolled in an accredited vocational, undergraduate or graduate program in Connecticut leading to a degree, certificate, license, or diploma in their field for the 2022-23 academic year.
- Applicants must have earned a minimum cumulative average of a C+ in all prior college level coursework.
- Applicants can be high school, college, graduate or returning students
To be considered, applicants must submit:
- A completed application form
- Written statement of intent/essay
- Academic transcript

Award Amount: $1,000
Scholarship Qualifications: One for a high school senior, college freshman or sophomore, or returning student; one for college junior, senior, or a college student preparing for graduate studies; and one for either a high school senior, college freshman or sophomore or a college student preparing for graduate studies that is looking for need-based support.
This scholarship is named in honor of David Knapp, a longtime friend and supporter of the Center, and past Dorothy Award honoree. David’s amazing list of accomplishments include: starting Connecticut chapters of GLSEN (the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network) and PFLAG (Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays); leading his church, the First Church of Christ of Guilford, in its efforts to become an open and affirming organization; and remaining at the forefront of the charge to get the Boy Scouts of America to change its archaic policy on homosexuality.

Award Amount: $1,000
Scholarship Qualifications: One scholarship intended for someone pursuing a medical degree and/or studying within the medical field. Medical field is broad and those attending trade schools, community colleges, and/or other pre-med training should are encouraged to apply.
The Rosa Nilvo O’Connell Memorial Scholarship was created in January, 2016 by the family of Rosa in her honor after her passing in late 2015. Rosa is the mother of longtime Center board member and former co-president Joshua O’Connell. In her lifetime Rosa was heavily involved in volunteerism, and believed in supporting youth and the LGBT community. The scholarship aims to continue her work and legacy via an annual award. In recognition of her more than quarter century as a nurse, those pursuing a medical degree will be considered for the Rosa Nilvo O’Connell Memorial Scholarship.

Scholarship Qualifications: This scholarship is intended for a transgender high school senior, college freshman or sophomore, or returning student.
This scholarship was established in 2020 in partnership with a group of transgender activists from Connecticut in direct response to the transphobic attacks on two Connecticut high school transgender athletes. This scholarship, which has been established in their name, aims to support transgender high school and college students bridge the gap of inequality that they face based only on their gender identity.

Scholarship Qualifications: This scholarship is intended for a high school senior, college freshman or sophomore, or returning student.
This scholarship was established in 2022 in the memory of Sarah Dinh in the hopes of inpsiring future generations of leaders, community organizers, and schalors.

Scholarship Qualifications: This scholarship is intended for a high school senior, college freshman or sophomore, or returning student who identifies as an LGBTQ+ woman.
This scholarship was established in 2022 by Alpha Coiro with the goal of supporting LGBTQ+ women who want to attend higher education and focus their studies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and/or education and training in nontraditional roles.

Scholarship Qualifications: This scholarship is intended for a high school senior, college freshman or sophomore, or returning student.
This scholarship established by the Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticut (ISCofAllCT), is meant to support the future leaders of the LGBTQ+ community. During their 20th year of fundraising in 2019, the ISCofAllCT raised significant funds to establish this Memorial Scholarship Fund that is in the memory of deceased members and community leaders.
