In addition to the peer-led support and 12-step groups that meet at the Center, there are many different support groups throughout our community. These groups meet either other LGBTQ+ community spaces and/or are at LGBTQ+ inclusive organizations.

Support Groups in Our Community

50+ HIV+ Support Group

A support group that focuses on the concerns of men and women, over 50 years old, living with HIV. Group topics include: trauma recovery, healthy living, relationships and sexual health, cognitive fitness, and mentoring the younger generations. Sharing our stories with others is an important part of empowering ourselves in sharing the legacy of our journey. For more info, please contact group coordinator Rich Radocchia.

This group meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30p.

BHB Men’s Support Group

A support group for gay men looking for peer support covering topics including relationships, health, family, sexuality, and loss/grief and meets at the West Haven Community House at 227 Elm Street, West Haven. For more information, contact the group or check them out online.

The group meets 1st Tuesday of each month from 7:00 – 9:00p.

Divinely You Transgender Support Group

No matter where you fall on the gender continuum there is a place for you at the Divinely You Transgender Support Group. You no longer have to face the world alone. Let Our Differences Be Our Strengths. Meetings are held at APNH at 1302 Chapel Street, New Haven. For more info, please contact group facilitator Nadine Ruff.

The group meets 1st and 3rd Thursday each month and a light dinner is served.

Positive Voices (Men’s HIV Support)

A support, social and informational group for men who are living with HIV/AIDS open to gay, straight and bisexual men and takes place at APNH, 1302 Chapel Street in New Haven. For more info, contact group coordinator Tim Mack, Jr.

The group meets every other Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm and dinner is served.

MPower+

A social support group for young men living with HIV to support each other and make friends. This group is open to LGBTQ+ and straight men ages 18-30 and takes place at AIDS Project New Haven, 1302 Chapel Street in New Haven. For more info, please contact MPowerment Coordinator Mike McGowan.

This group meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30p.

Women Empowered (Women’s HIV Support)

A support group for women living with HIV/AIDS features presentations which share valuable information on topics of interest and takes place at AIDS Project New Haven, 1302 Chapel Street in New Haven. For more info, contact group coordinator Fran McMullen.

The group meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month for lunch.

MPowerment New Haven

mPowerment New Haven is an HIV prevention and social program bringing together men who love men alongside trans persons and others on the GBTQ+ spectrum ages 18-29. mPowerment is a great way to network, socialize and help stop new HIV infections! Queer Dharma

A forum for practice and discussion relating all Dharma traditions and the experience and concerns of LGBTQI individuals and their friends. All are warmly welcome regardless of experience, spiritual tradition, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual/affectional orientation. Each meeting will include meditation instruction, practice, readings and discussion. Queer Dharma takes place at the Shambhala Center, 82 Willow Street, Building B, Top Floor.

This group every Sunday from 7:30 to 9:00p.
