Meet Our Speaker

Mx. Anunnaki Ray Marquez

Anunnaki (he/him) is an intersex man assigned the wrong gender identity at birth as a girl in 1967. He emancipated his true gender identity at the age of forty-six years old and at the same time started to use the word “intersex” to describe his sex traits and physiology being different than endosex male and female bodied people. He has been with his husband for thirty-two years and has two biological kids and one adopted child. His children call him a “Seahorse Dad” and a gestational father. In 2015, Anunnaki became a Gender/Intersex Activist, blogger, and educator. By 2018 he would receive Colorado’s first Intersex Birth Certificate and be asked to do his TEDx Talk, Born Intersex: we are human. He is currently a Master of Divinity Student at Meadville Lombard Theological School. Anunnaki calls himself a survivor of psychic mutilation due to being coerced into living as a girl most of his life. When he found out about the survivors of intersex genital mutilation, he decided to stand up for the human rights of all intersex children. Anunnaki hopes that all the world’s faiths stop erasing intersex people, and we can all celebrate being born intersex soon.
